Unit 7: Motion

1) I can describe the characteristics of motion.

2) I can explain the difference between distance and displacement.
          * Distance- sum of the length of space that you traveled
          *Displacement- the difference in space from where you began travel to where you ended (straight line)

3) I can create a motion graph.
4) I can interpret a motion graph.
5) I can create a position time graph from a motion map or written description.
6) I can create a velocity time graph from a position time graph.
7) I can explain the differences between speed and velocity.
          * Speed- is how fast an object is moving
          * Velocity- is how fast an object is moving AND in which direction it is moving
8) I can calculate the velocity of an object. (x=distance, v=velocity, t=time)
          * v=x           * t=x          *x=v*t
                t                 v

9) I can define acceleration. (a=acceleration, t=time, Vf=final velocity, Vi=initial velocity)
          * Acceleration- the rate of change of velocity
          * a=Vf-Vi          *t=Vf-Vi          *Vf=(a*t) + Vi          *Vi=Vf - (a*t)
                    t                     a

10) I can identify how acceleration, velocity and time are related.

11) I can define momentum- property of a moving object that equals its mass times its velocity.
